Descripción general
El cambio de nombre en Nuevo México es un procedimiento judicial que permite que una persona adopte un nombre distinto al que recibió al nacer o al ser adoptada.
Si se otorga, el juez emite una orden para que la persona pueda probar que ha adoptado un nombre nuevo y así poder cambiar otros documentos, como la licencia de conducir, las cuentas bancarias y las tarjetas de identificación.
In order to get a court order changing your name or a child’s name, you must file a petition in the District Court in the county where you live. After you file your petition to change the name, you will get a court hearing. If you are trying to change the name of your child, you will also have to let the other parent know so that s/he has a chance to come to court if s/he doesn’t agree. If both parents agree, they can both sign documents consenting to the petition to change their child’s name.
